Recently, the 220kV new-type thermoplastic polypropylene cable system, developed under the leadership of CEPRI, has successfully passed all type tests in Zhuhai. This is China’s first polypropylene cable system of this voltage class to utilize independently developed insulation and semi-conductive shielding materials, marking a key breakthrough in China’s technology for high-voltage environmentally friendly thermoplastic cables.
As the core R&D unit for key materials in this project, Zhejiang Wanma Macromolecule Material Group Co., Ltd. participated throughout the entire process of material R&D, formulation optimization, and process implementation. Led by CEPRI, the project team was jointly established with leading enterprises across the industrial chain, including PetroChina Petrochemical Research Institute, Orient Cable, Changyuan Electric Power, and State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power. A full-chain collaborative R&D system covering raw material development, formulation adjustment, process optimization and finished product verification was built. Ultimately, both the performance and manufacturing processes of polypropylene insulation materials and semi-conductive shielding materials were upgraded. This achievement enables full independent control over core materials and thoroughly breaks through the technical bottlenecks restricting industrial upgrading.
Thermoplastic polypropylene cables are core products for the construction of new green smart power grids. Compared with conventional cables, they feature shorter production cycles, larger power transmission capacity, superior electrical performance, eco-friendliness, zero pollution and recyclability. They fully meet the demands of the power industry for low-carbon transformation and efficient power transmission, and represent a key development direction for the upgrading and iteration of high-voltage power grids.
Going forward, Wanma Macromolecule will continue to focus on high-voltage eco-friendly cable materials. Leveraging its comprehensive R&D system and industrial chain collaboration strengths, the company will work with project teams to tackle core technologies for polypropylene cables of higher voltage grades. Driven by robust material innovation, we will facilitate the green transformation and upgrading of China’s high-voltage cable industry, consolidate the foundation for the independent development of domestic high-end power equipment, and keep empowering the construction of the new power system.
